The YMCA is proud to offer membership and respite child care services to eligible military families and personnel to offer them extra support during the difficult period of deployment. It can be a stressful and uncertain time for the nation’s servicemen and women and their families. By partnering with the Armed Services YMCA and the Department of Defense, the YMCA tries to give back to those who dedicate themselves to serve the country.
At the YMCA one can spend quality time with their family and enjoy fun activities in a warm, supportive environment. Personnel who are eligible for a YMCA membership are family members of Deployed National Guard and Reservists, Active Duty Independent Duty personnel and their families, relocated spouse/dependent children of Deployed Active duty personnel. The service member should be on active duty and must be deployed for a minimum of six months. Wounded service members assigned to a community based Warrior in Transition Unit are also eligible for membership.
To take a membership one needs to contact the Military OneSource to confirm their eligibility and receive an eligibility form. One should then get their eligibility form, Military ID and any other required documentation to a participating YMCA for verification.
The YMCA also comes to the rescue of families where one parent is away from the household. The remaining caregiver can become overwhelmed by the added responsibilities in and outside the house. The YMCA offers care for the children of such parents in a nurturing environment while the parent gets some much deserved time for oneself. Respite child care is available for infants up to 12 years of age.
